Mitchell Elementary to start the 2020-2021 school year with Distance Learning

MITCHELL ELEMENTARY DISTANCE LEARNING SCHEDULE

Our school is committed to providing an outstanding distance learning experience that supports the success of each and every student. As we begin the 2020-2021 school year on August 24, the district and all schools are implementing NEW distance learning guidelines that will provide your child(ren) with a consistent daily schedule and clear classroom expectations.

Overview of Teaching and Learning

Teacher-Led Video-Based Instruction
Every classroom teacher will use video conferencing (Zoom or Google Meets) to lead live, interactive classroom instruction for 110-170 minutes every day. Students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade will participate in:

  • Daily morning and closure meetings for overview of day and wellness check-ins
  • 2 daily lessons led by their teacher with the whole class via video conference
  • Small group instruction led by teacher via video conference at least twice weekly
  • Access to one-on-one individual meeting with their teacher during daily office hours
  • English Language Learner students will receive additional daily lesson.

Daily Independent Work
In addition to the live video-based instruction, students will participate in daily independent work including 20 minutes of reading, 80-140 minutes of independent online learning assignments to build upon skills taught in class using online learning platforms including ABC Mouse (TK-2nd grade) or Pathblazer (3rd-6th grade), 20 minutes of movement/exercise, and interventions or tutoring by aide or specialist based on student need.
